My M37 is my first car without a frame. Previously it was always easy to Jack up and support the frame but on this car there are only pinch welds to support which I already bent some....

What jacks, stands, or adapters do you recommend to prevent further damage to the pinch welds? I would prefer adapters since I already have a few hundred bucks invested in good jacks and stands.

Can I just hammer the pinch welds that I bent back into place?

I've bent them on nearly every car, never had them fixed...not an issue. Just use the same spot every time.

Hmm, I figured it'd be rather frowned upon.

You can use a small piece of wood to spread the weight across the pinch weld a bit more.

I've also used wood to increase height from the bottom or as an adapter on flat lifting surfaces.
Just watch out the type of wood you use and the kind of jacking point you use, as it's possible to split the wood along the grain.

Just like Ilya, I just use the aftermarket jack that closest matches the factory attachment point on the scissor jack.

I would use wood for sure...but I have a lift in my garage with arms that spread the weight around so I don't have to.

What jack is that?

Well, "aftermarket" might be a little misleading. I just meant non-OEM for the make and model I have at the moment. During my more ambitious days I would ensure every time I went to the junkyard I left with a nice jack assembly. Over the years I have retained about 6 different ones and just switch them around (I have stripped many a scissor jack, even when staying within the load limits)
As an example, the Infiniti QX4 jacks I have seem to handle very well as the "u" notch on the connection seems deeper so I don't necessarily pinch the weld, it contacts the other structures. I also have a bottle jack from an earlier Pathfinder that has withstood all that I have thrown at it. The SUV ones raise the cars pretty high.

As for lifting points, I have found other spots, usually where the subframe meets the unibody as a good lifting point which works well enough with most jacks I use.

I need to invest in proper heavy duty jacks though.

Anyone use hockey pucks? I've seen guys on other forums who use a router/Dremel to make a channel
eg. like this: http://www.stiblog.com/modifications/di ... d-adapter/
some guys don't even cut a channel - they just let the weight of the car sink into the puck.

or for your jack stands?
on another forum - midway down the page:

I do not use anything other then a couple regular floor jacks and have had no issues with the pinch weld getting bent.

Where do you guys jack the back of the car up from? I know you can jack up from where the pinch welds are but there's supposed to be a point near the transfer case that you can back up from. Seems like it's impossible to reach though.

Before I installed my ARK exhaust, I jacked the rear using the diff.

There are a lot of jack "pinch weld adapters" available. They're cheap enough. Everyone should use one, IMO.

I got the extra large pinch weld adapter in yesterday. Unfortunately nothing helpful for the jack stands that I have found which seem to do the most damage to the pinches.

I'm doing my first oil change since I bought the car today. Goes to the dealer tomorrow for, ATF, xfer case, and diff fluid changes, an alignment, and get a second (maybe third) key FOB.

I'm amused by Amazon's "#1 seller in floor jacks" being an actual hockey puck.

I used the large rubber cylinder with the cutout "adapter." Worked better than I had anticipated. The jack stands didn't do any additional damage to the pinch welds which aren't as bad as I had original remembered seeing.

I will still try to find something for the jacks in the future but for now, this will work well.

Yup, hockey puck works swell for me. Here's what I did to preserve the pinch welds:

I bought some rubber adapters from Amazon. This forum won't allow me to post an URL but they are made by TMB Motorsports and Amazon lists them as: "Full Size Extra Large V-Slotted Universal Rubber Jack Pad Frame Rail Protector (Single)".

They have a V shape cut to take the pinch weld and cost $18.98 each. I've already used them and they work fine.

The Murano Factory Service Manual lists an adapter from Kent-Moore Tools, labeled safety stand adapters, Kent-Moore tool part # LM4519-0000. However, I called Kent-Moore Tools and they said that part number is invalid and not even in the Kent-Moore format. He also said that his computer notes show that other people have also called in asking for the same part. He tried looking up under the name and got no returns. I went down to my local Nissan dealership. The parts guy had no clue to it, so I tried one of their mechanics. He said he had never seen such an adapter, but said it was a good idea because otherwise the pinch weld would bend. He suggested making an adapter out of a piece of wood or rubber. A check on other forums shows a failure of other people to get this adapter from either the dealership or from Kent-Moore.

Amazon also listed other adapters with square groove cuts. The one I listed is the only one with a V-cut.

Hope this helps.

Bill, MY2J has over 10 posts which enables this feature for him. You'll be able to soon enough (but don't go around randomly bumping threads to get to that level :gapteeth: )

I made 2 more of these (hockey puck) pinch-weld adapters for my neighbors, this week:

LOL.

Anyway, I've made some wooden blocks with pinch weld cutouts to spread the load around. They worked well.
I also have sacrificial endless supply of cheap wedge wood that I use on the jack stands. They sort of collapse like a sponge and spread the load around.
