I have a 1993 J30t with 133,000 miles and have been having problems with the automatic transmission. Originally the transmission stopped moving once in drive so I towed it to a local transmission repair shop and they found shavings in the fluid which I saw myself. They rebuilt transmission. Mechanic stated that it was rebuilt with aftermarket parts, not Infiniti. About 10,000 miles after rebuild I felt transmission starting to behave like it did before, shifting hard and hesitant to move once in gear. I took it back to the same transmission shop and once again there were shavings in the fluid. The mechanic told me the planetary system was bad. It was fixed, but the trans still does not shift as smooth as it did when it was good. It shifts hard and sometimes slips. I can be doing 80mph and for two seconds the transmission will slip and the car just revs but no power going to the ground then it will catch itself. I want to know does anybody know of a reputable transmission place that has experience with Infiniti J30 transmissions that either sells or rebuilds them. If so what is the cost? Has anyone had a similar problem with their J30?

Thanks everyone for any help you can provide...

I'm not sure how close you are to these guys:

http://www.levelten.com/

but they build and rebuild some solid transmissions, that are performance oriented. Some memebers on this forum have had these guys build there transmission and have been quite happy.

How much has the average rebuild been through them? I'm finding out since apparently if I'm keeping this car much past 200K it seems like an inevitable deal, even though I think I've fixed the current issue with mine.

I've been familiar with that company when the spyder was running, was going to have them do some work on it before it blew up the second time. So I never got a price quote on a complete rebuild.

And if they could actually turn it into a 5 speed auto vs. the 4 speed like I've heard that would be great too.

Hope you have a deep wallet. Level ten does great work but they are NOT cheap.
