A Few days ago I had brought my car to the dealer to get the Timming belt changed. The car was running excellent before I brought it in. Now I am experiencing two issues.

1) The car feels like it is not Idling as smooth as before and notice the motor shakes a little. ( Which it never did before)

2) I also was hearing a little knocking noise, (Which it never did before) Brought it back, So dealer increases my Idles to compensate.

What is causing this problem? Is timming out?

I am not happy with the service that the dealer has done. What Should I tell the dealer? The car never had these conditions before I brought the car in.

Adjusting the base idle according to climate on the J's are normal, especially in Canada.

Have they checked you MAF sensor?

What dealer did you bring it to? If your in the Toronto area and need to go to a dealer try one on Infiniti of Yorkville or Agincourt. Both are first class service dealers with mostly master mechanics who have been with Nissan for many, many years.

If you experience bad Infiniti customer service, you should call the Ininfiti Customer Service line. They are very responsive to service complaints.

What was changed exactly on this timing belt replacement ? The engine is very picky when it comes to belt changes.. make sure it a kevlar belt..and very critical, the belt tensioners need to be replaced. Setting the tensioner is a very precise procedure and that will cause the rattle/knock issue you are describing. I have seen/heard of it numerous times on the VG30DE (J30) engine line.

I'm sorry to hear they adjusted the idle. They should never have done that..unless they changed the timing. Looks like they are contributing to the existing issue. This is what should have been replaced on your timing belt service. http://www.courtesyparts.com/M..._Code=

Thanks for replying.Metaverse3

I had the Nissan Dealer change exactly everything water pump, tensioner, pully's etc. But the way the car ran before I changed the belts was alot smoother and no knocking noise. What is causing this knock noise? What can I do to bring the car back to life?

Knocking could be related to the timing being out. Aside from the roughness, how's the power feel? Same as before, or lower? Can you borrow a timing light and check the spark timing?

it might be when it was installed the belt they have it a tooth off in timming.if you rev it in park and it doesnt respond as it use to that the problem. And for the knock noise belt might be too loose.the belt might be slapping against cover.

What about the regular (3) belts. I just had mine replaced. They sqealed. Asked the shop to adjust the tensioners. Still sqeals (and more so now - its been a few days since). Do these tensioners need to be replaced too?

Spray some silicone belt dressing and see if that helps. Do a visual exam of the belts and see if it looks wet. A known issue on J's is the water inlet which is right above the belts..it can drip and cause issues. The waterpump can also leak coolant on to the belts as well since it is in the same area..

Try to get a different set of belts if you checked the aforementioned symptoms and the squeals persist. Gates seems to be a decent aftermarket brand.. Attached is a diagram of tensioner tightening points. Hope it helps..
