I can say specifically on the J30, but that size/offset looks like a FWD car wheel, so it would be "sunken". It's unlikely it woudl rub the suspension, but may rub during "full turn lock".

If you have the stock wheels dimensions, you can use on online offset calc to ball park the differences.

If I recall correctly. The desired offset is like 35 I believe. If not 30 on the J

that might be a bit too much positive offset, i have had 17x7.5 with a 35mm offset before they ran alright, i'm currently running 17x7's with a 40mm offset they are also working fine, i'd be hesistant on the 45mm...have you test fitted them?

Hey, I have a 1994 j30t. I am now thinking of upgrading my wheels.I was interested in getting a staggered configuration.

18x8 with (245,35,18) in the front18x9 with (265,35,18) in the rear

I tried a couple of online wheel and tire packages but they just dont wana sell me the wheels saying I MUST go with 18x8's all around but I really wana get the staggered package. Its just $100 more. The reps tell me the tires will RUB!

I dont get how 18x9's wont fit the car as I see people on CAR domain having 20's and 22's???

Can anybody please help me with this so I can make a decission?

Here are the wheels I liked.

I really appreciate your help. I just need someone to tell me if the staggered sizes will fit 100% and then I can order. Also if they fit, would any mods be necessary or they'd just go on directly?

THanks

It's not the diameter that is the problem because you can get shorter tires to offset the hieght of the wheels. It's the width of the tires that will rub. 265 is probably too wide.

Oh, and link no workie.

on 1993 and 1994 J30 "t" models remember to deactivate your HICAS system (especially if getting rims beyond 16") otherwise you'll damage it and your rear tires.

here's the link again..

If it doesn't work just try wheelsnext.com and look at the "TORK TORK" wheels.

The funny thing is that the Sales Rep I spoke to at wheelsnext kept telling me that the width was fine but it was the offset due to which the tire would rub on the fender

Anyhow like driverdriver mentioned if I have to deactivate my HICAS I don't think its worth it.

I'll get some suggestions from the rainbowgarage people and other service places as well when I go for my repairs.

You guys have been a great help!. Thansk alot.

USE THE TOOL IF YOU ARE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH OFFSETS

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

punch in the original offset and punch in your new offset, it'll tell you how much different your inner and outer dimension are going to be, the inner is if it will rub against your struts/suspension housing and the outer will tell you fender rub (you'll hve to measure of course as well)

someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the factory wheels are +40mm...

Chiller what size tires are you running? I'm thinking of going up to 17's and was wondering how much it affects ride quality and the MPH reading?

Anyone running 18's could you also answer the same questions?

Thanks in advance,NL

Here's a neat calculator to see what the MPH difference will be between different tire sizes:

on the 17x7.5 rims i was running 235/45/17

on the new 17x7's i'm using now i'm running a 225/45/17

if we are going on a purley mathematical standpoint the overall circumference of a stock J30 tire (215/60/15) is 2006.8 mm

the 235/45/17 tire is 2020.3mm....about 0.68% too big, meaning that when you are going 60MPH from the police radar gun your gauge on your speedo is going to be showing 'only' roughly 59.5MPH (are you going to notice a difference on your gauge of 1/2 a MPH? i doubt it)

the 225/45/17 tire is only 1992.3mm so this one is about 0.72% too small...which means that at 60mph on the police radar gun your speedo gauge is going to be showing you 60.4mph....

seriously, are your eyes and body going to notice 1/2 mph on either side of 60? i doubt it...

as for ride quality the 235 and 225 are alot stiffer then stock by virtue of the short short sidewall, wider rubber and bigger rim...ride quality isn't bad by any means i like it...however that is all in the tire that you buy, i have had yokohama Avid's on there and the ride is very stiff, and I've had 2 sets of Kumho's and they were alot softer and definitely more comfortable to drive along the highway...

my 2 cents...

Thanks for your feedback. I'm going to have to research the ride quality of different brands of 225/45/17's. I know there will be a compromise in ride quality by going to a lower profile tire, but I would like to keep it as comfortable as possible.

If anyone else has any opinions or experiences, please speak up.

I ran the Kumho 711's last time and they have a soft sidewall very nice soft ride if that is what you are after I am currently running the Kumho AST's which have a stiffer sidewall but not as stiff as the Yokohama Avid's...but even the Avids were less stiff then a set of AVS Sports I had on there...

I went with these purely based on price, the Yoko's when I bought them were only $90/tire USD and the 711's that replaced them were only $80/tire.....and I just put the AST's on a month ago and they had a great $40 rebate on them and after rebate the cost was ONLY $67/tire...

I ran a 235/45/17 Falken Ziex, on a 17x8, +35, no fitment issues and the tires have a soft tread for an all season, and stiff sidewall, I liked them a lot. A vast improvement over the 215/55/15 stock tires, the extra rubber on the rear really helps, since the rear end is light and the car is relatively torquey.
