Holding loaded redline more than a few [5] seconds is a good way to check the condition of rod bolts and caps..........but I believe most would not want to know! Why all the trannies usually shift around 6500-6700 rpm.
When ever I've done quarter mile runs I always leave it in 2nd as the timing lights are never beyond 7,100 rpm.....97-98 mph with JWT ecu.
Based on the Q rod length maximum safe piston speed for cast units is a tiny bit beyond 7,300 rpm, BUT this does not take into account the effects of advanced wear from mileage and rod stretch at ultimate rpm where the piston crown to valve clearances get very very close as these components expand when heated to extremes. Hopefully the piston flycuts are sufficient.
So far so good but tommorrow might be diffferent. As members have found when rods exit the block.
