Hello all, I just recently posted a topic concerning the flasher lights on my j30. After going to pep boys and getting a flasher relay i went to investigate exactly where it is located. I took the dash off the steering wheel and could no locate it so as i did before; i turned the car on to see where the smoke was comming from. However when i went to turn it on the car would not start. I could hear clicking and it seemed like it wanted to start but couldnt.

I'm not sure exactly what it could be but my guesses are that maybe i blew the starter fuse? which is located under the hood on the passengers side. Or did i blow another fuse? or could it be the battery or alternator? When i go to turn the car on the one light flickers i think it's the H something light next to the airbag light and all the other lights light up. Someone please help me so i can solve this! also.. is the ignition fuse and starter fuse different?

Actually I think the turn signal relay is the hazzard switch, because I remmber unplugging it and my turn signals would it work (Luckly I was in Massachusetts).

This might help: zerothread?id=330110

But I don't think there is a correlation between removing the dash and the car not starting. Dod you fool with the Ignition at all?

i didnt really pull the ignition cord or nothing unless i accidently knocked knocked a wire lose i'll have to check.. but could that be the cause? it seems like it wants to start but it cant.. maybe the battery?

I would check the battery and alternator to eliminate those possibilities. It is possible the battery is on it's way out and sitting with the car door open pushed it over the edge. That said, the alternator could be on it's way out and not providing enough juice and killing the battery.

Also, check the bulbs. They may be dual filements (one for brake lights other for turn signals - perhaps the previous owner put in the wrong bulbs). Hope this helps

ok i am currently getting the old battery tested and i decided to take these steps. If the old battery is bad then i will buy a new one and test the alternator with a multimeter; if i dont hit about 13.6 volts while the car is on then i know the alternator is bad. now if it is not the alternator and the battery is just bad then i believe it is the hazard switch but can someone tell me where the hell this is? and what color it looks like; ect. because i cant find it to save my life. as far as the bulbs go.. what am i looking for in particular?

i got the battery tested and it holds about 11.6 volts which the guy at pepboys said is good/ok. I put the battery into the car and turned it on and put a multimeter on it. It looks like it's running about 12 or 12 1/2 volts . Does that seem normal? i know that it should be around 13.6 and i still cant figure out where the damn hazard relay is lol.
