Alright guys, i need to replace my rear passenger side wheel bearing on my car (~95 J30). And i have heard this is more of a pain in the *** than the usual wheel bearing....

What all is required to do this?

Can i just buy a wheel bearing and have it pressed in?

Or do i have to buy a whole hub/spindle/bearing assembly?

Please, if you have any info to help me out, post up, i would truly appreciate it.

-Kyle

Not I ..But I have heard that if the bearing is bad enough to howl it's probably scored the spindle pretty bad.

I didn't do it myself, I had someone do it for me some years ago. Potholes from harsh winters and speed bumps took there toll on my rear bearings. I had the whole thing replaced for I think my rears(both of them). I think it took a tech an hour to do each.

Repairing the bearing is a bit of work on this car. You have to take the wheel assembly off the car, separate the wheel hub from the assembly, remove the retainer clips (there is one on each side), press the bearing into the wheel assembly, on the outer race of the bearing (grind down the outside of the old outter, so it wont press into the assembly and stay there, and use it to press the outer race of the new bearing in the assembly (DONT PRESS in BY THE CENTER RACE!) Replace the retainer clips. Now press the wheel hub into the bearing, when pressing this bearing in, support it on the center race this time, so you don't separate the bearing (once it's separated, it's broken, which is about $100 down the drain).

Oh and remember to buy 2 grease seals!, you'll wanta replace both of them! And put a good amount of grease on the seals, but the bearings wont need them.

Good luck, and have fun! It will be about 3 hours of work if you can get it all off the car in a timely matter, and back on!

-- Got me one at a wrecker, they just chopped it all out, got the spindle, hub & bearing, along with the knuckle, a good caliper, and a bad rotor for like $30 or $40.

Wow, $18 is a whole lot less than what I paid for a new bearing... I think it was $75 for the bearing, and $20 for both grease seals.

I'd just be a little nervous using a used bearing, thats something that commonly goes out, I'd just replace the bearing with a new one, more life on it, but you can't beat $18 for that repair.

Thanks yoda, I've been on plenty of other nissan forums, I haven't posted on here much, but I plan to post more in the future. I've been working on Nissans and Infiniti's for years, NICO is a great place for knowledge on these cars, espically the J.
