Prof. Mike, it was mentioned that J30s develope problems with their valve timing system at high mileages. Have you had experience with these problems? What should I look out for? Thanks.

We have seen a few of the timing mechanisms on the sprocket stick and control solenoids on the back of the heads stick. Not very frequent. The consult enables you to actuate the system to check for operation. A rattle at idle from the upper engine is the only by product perceived without consult.

Thanks for the reply. As my J ages (just turned 100k :) ), knowing what problems are likely to crop up helps in planning future maintenance expenditures. Of course these best laid plans could be knocked down like a house of cards through accident, etc. but being forewarned is being for forarmed.

Would good oil change habits and/or a clean kept engine, lessen the chance of thsi occuring?

Fred...:)
