so ive decided its time for bigger brakes, i just dont have enought stopping power anymore.

there is a j30 in my junkyard im pulling the differential out of tomarrow. my question is, should i go ahaid and pull the front callipers and roters while im at it, or look for some 300z front and rears.

ive been doing some research, and i cant find an answer im looking for anywhere. how much better would a full 300 upgrade be than just a j30 front, aside from the obvious extra 2 calipers. Im looking for the best ballance of cost, effectiveness (stopping power and fade resistance), and install success. ive got a good bit of experience under my belt and am convinced i can do the full z upgrade, but my car cant be down for a week.

input from anyone that has done either of these conversions would be most helpfull.

I've had j30 front brakes for awhile now and still love them. Much better than our stock single piston calipers. While I'm sure the j30's don't stop as well as the z32 calipers I have always heard that to make the z32 calipers work more effectively you should also upgrade to a z32 brake master. Here's the write up I did for nico so you can see what's involved with the j30 conversion. The conversion didn't take too long and I even drill my own rotors with a dewalt drill.

if you wanna save a ton of money and still have good stopping power, then get the J30, you can use your stock MC and brake lines. If you get 300zx you have to worry about wheel clearance and all that other stuff.

im running the q45/j30 setup and i couldnt ask for better braking for daily driving. if i could get a set of z or GTR brakes that would be sick, but my car doesn't see enough track time to justify the need for that kinda stoping power right now.

the J30 setup is relatively inexpensive and stops very well. you wont be disappointed with the simple plug and play of this setup.

i dont know but its defiantly not Joice Lex.

thank you for all the imput guys, and thanks anumeric for posting that write up, i looked at it earlyer today ind its going to make things a breeze for me if i go that route. Is the z upgrade really that costly if you pull the parts from a junk yard. one of the write ups i read for the z upgrade said that you could use the z's brake lines on the 240 chassis. I see allot of track time (and mountain time). I think the j30 would be a good choice, but i dont want to finish it and 2 months later need more stopping power. also, what is it like having j30s up front and stocks in the rear, does it throw off ballance at all? do your fronts lock up before the rears under hard braking?

it seems to be pretty balanced with the stockers in the rear. then again though, im using a z32 BMC. i also installed the q45 setup on another members car, and he said balance and pedal feel is balanced and excellent.

Stock Q brakes can stop a Q 60-0 in under 130ft... 240's weigh about half as much as a Q... that being said, Q/J30 brakes are more than adequate for a 240..

You can get really nice pads for the Q calipers as well, some hawk HPS and some nice rotors too. I upgraded my Q to Z brakes (they are bolt on front AND rear for a Q) and really it wasnt that much of an upgrade. More or less I wanted something with more options as far as rotors and pads go because Q's EAT brakes for breakfast... plus they look cool. I think my Q stops better, but I never had a true hardcore setup on my Q calipers... The stock Q brakes with Q MC put down almost as much stopping power as Z brakes do.
