so I'm about to pick up my j30 vlsd in a few days, I'm getting the diff, axles, flanges and all mounting hardware for $150.00! It's too good of a deal to pass up, the only downfall is that it's five bolt flanges. but from my understanding it's fine just as long as I have the matching axles which I will. my question is can I put the vlsd into my s13 open diff case? I have been told that the j30 vlsd is an r200, and that I can put the vlsd assembly into my case but I have to use the j30 ring gear, lsd axle flanges, and combo it with my pinion. Soo can someone please point me in the right direction!! -thanks in advance

You can put it into your 240sx diff housing if you like, or you can just swap out the ring gear and rear diff cover so it bolts up right.

they're both r200 differentials, so you can swap internals and diff covers.

If you run the J30 ring gear your final drive gearing will be different than that of a 240sx final drive, meaning your top speed may change wrt each individual gear.

Hope this answers your question, you can check out the many diff replacement or swap articles in teh site by searching. If you want to rebuild your vlsd or make it more aggressive, check out something whitecomet wrote up recently.
