Slight vibration from floor (center console vibrates) consistently at 30mph. Just replaced tension rods and bushings and have 4 new yokohama tires. Does not seem to be a brake related issue as braking does not affect this (rotor and pads just done, BTW). The vibration occurs under acceleration at 30mph. The car is very smooth at highway speeds. It's been doing this consistently since I bought it, very mild but perceptible. Any suggestions?

Is the vibration rpm related? Accelerating @30 mph would probably mean that you are in second gear and turning 3k rpm. Is vibration the same in third gear @ 3k rpm with vehicle speed @ ~55 mph while accelerating?

Don't notice the problem at all at hwy speeds, just between 30-40. I'll monitor the rpms next time.

The vibration seems to have disappeared after replacing the spark plugs and timing belt, etc. It also idled a bit rough before all of this. They said the existing belt was cracked. With 100K the original 60K belt, I'm glad we had it done when we did. Maybe the original owners thought they had a 95 J ;) The plugs also appeared original.

The vibration may have been a miss or timing off from a stretched or slipped belt and old plugs... itsn't it nice when you do maintenence and actually feel the difference! Glad you caught that belt in time! :D

100k on a 60k belt? Wow! It certainly appears the Nissan engineers allowed for a wide margin of error for belt failure. Good to know the VG30DE was so nicely over built but looks like you escaped major engine damage by the skin of your teeth.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting any performance improvement from this, just piece of mind. What a great bonus!

Not something I would have left to chance for sure. I'm feeling pretty lucky that it didn't break in the few hundred miles that we put on it before getting it done...found a reliable mechanic specializing in Japanese cars in the process too :ylsuper

I was thinking as I was driving around today about the your vibration occuring around 3k rpm. This is right when the J really starts to put out the power. Your timing belt was most likely beginning to stretch badly right then under the heavy load. As the belt stretched any elasticity was lost long ago and your idle vibration was only going to get worse and worse untill the belt snapped.

If you do regular quality oil changes, the timing belt is the only thing that can destroy the bullet proof VG30DE. Well, on second thought, I suppose a neglected cooling system might do some serious damage as well.

Thanks for the thoughts, VimyJ. Regular oil changes and yearly coolant flushes are a way of life for me. I'm pretty sure the previous owner kept up with these too. Good thing we lucked out on the timing belt :)
