Is your solenoid used or new? How much do you want for it? Do I have to drop the transmission to put it in? As far as the fluid, the car has over 125k and possibly never had a transmission service hence the not so fresh fluid.

hmmm if the fluid has never been changed then you might want to halt here. If that part went, and the broke down fluid has caused it who knows what other damage could have already been done to the transmission? What if you replace that part then it fails because of another part? I would say your main goal would be to flush it before you install the new part. You dont want to keep throwing money into a pit

Here's what I'd do...

Drop the pan on the trans and see how much metal flake is stuck to the magnet.

We'll nip this in the bud real quick.

In the meantime, try to find a new solenoid, but don't buy anything till you check the pan.

Varnish buildup due to broke down fluid will cause all sort of headaches. If its brown its not doing its job of keeping stuff clean.

I want to personally thank the both of you for your help. The diagnostic test showed the problem. Infiniti wanted $400 for the part(solenoid assembly upper) and I found this place online Makco Transmissions in Alabama & found the part for $99. My mechanic put it in and problem solved. You guys rock!!

THanks again!!

I'm not absolutely sure, only because you say when it warms up, it'll shift.

First...Can you do a self diagnostic test on a 240??

Secondly, I would see if the linkage, itself, is properly aligned and tight.

Then, if that doesn't fix it, find an inhibitor switch.

Incuding mine, this will be the 4th one I've fixed with the same problem.
