J30 Transmission Problem

Help! Help! Help! I have a 94 J30t with 157k miles and the transmission just broke down last week. The problem was when I step on the gas paddle, the engine just idle and won't move in any gear. It works for 10-15 sec after I restart the car but I could hear some grinding noise underneath the car. Does anyone know if this is a torque converter or gear worn out problem? The shop told me that it costs around $2k to rebuild the transmission. Is it worth to fix it or anyone has any suggesstion?

Welcome to NICO, and im sorry about your misfortune.....

Anyway, you transmission is shot...... No chance of revival for this baby.....

Best bet is to get a factory reman from Joe at scottsdale... http://www.infinitipartsusa.com ........ The Qs trannys are around 1800 (with core exchange), and I would assume the J is about the same......

Have a local shop put the new one in, maybe like 4-6hrs of labor.....

Spending the 2200 or so on a new transmission is much better than spending quite a bit more on a new car, plus taking the hit on not getting hardly anything from the J.....

Since your planning on getting a new transmission, you could try to get it to engage by revving the engine and putting it gear.... whats the worst that can happen, ruin the transmission?? Just dont go too high, or it might go too high and then mess up the diff.......

wouldnt over-rev too much, might be rough on the torque converter...which you will probably need, even with a reman.
