Since the pump is at the front of all jatco trannies, you usually find that the hardline that goes in near the front is the pressure line headed out to the cooler and the line that goes in behind the valve body is the return.

If they are both up front, then I just don't know.

Yeah, I think I'll add a cooler to mine as well. Howler, u gonna bypass the rad cooler or just add the remote as an auxillary? My motorhome transmission went out at 34k (PO- i think he towed overweight) and the transmission shop bypassed the rad cooler altogether. They added a huge cooler, manual controlled fan and a gauge on the dash.

Think Im gonna clean out the OEM cooler then run them in series.Even though the B&M cooler has a thermal bypass and I'm in Texas we still have the occasional low 20's day in Winter. (North Texas)The OEM cooler heats up a cold transmission as well as cools a hot one.

Yoda, that makes sense. I had a diagram somewhere that correlated temp vs. transmission life. My motorhome transmission temp rarely comes off 140 degrees and in AZ I don't think factory coolers are enough. It wasn't in the case of my motorhome for the PO. I probably will add an add'l one to the J and my Sonata SE anyway. I'd sure like to see 200k miles plus on both b4 I have to do trannies...

I don't sit in traffice, but we get 100 plus days here too. Had to visit a customer in Lake Havasu City last week- thermometer said 123...the ol J wasn't happy...pinging no and again....think I would too. But I normally highway it to places like Phoenix, Tucson etc. Heat is the enemy!!!!

I prefer the stock oil/water cooler because of it's great efficiency and add a cooler after the stock cooler exit.

Sizing an aftermarket cooler for your application is very important as is whether you can get airflow over it.

The big problem with the stock coolers is that they are usually filled with chunks of the previous transmission that expired and no amount of cleaning gets rid of all of them.

In my current infiniti M30 with L28et and 3n71b transmission, I filled the cooler passages with a multitude of cleaning fluids from brake cleaner to carb cleaner and let it sit for many days before blowing it out with high pressure air.

I did this about 50 times and still got chunks of stuff when I blew it out into a glass jar.

Any time I replace a toasted auto transmission, I also replace the radiator for this reason.

Howler;

I see your point, but like Yoda, I live in an area that's prone to high temps. With 63k original miles, I am trying to avoid a transmission "meltdown" (pardon the pun). My coach's cooler (with a fan) is 7"X14" and rarely goes above 140dF. I just want to ensure a long life out of this transmission. The local shop estimated $2800 should I need to. However, I found a shop in Phoenix (3 hours away) that has rebuilts at $849. The point I wanted to make is that I LOVE my J and want her to be around awhile. I found the link I mentioned earlier:

I think a 4"X11" would help immensely.

I put this B&M http://www.bmracing.com/PRODUC...4x3-4 in both my Js in series after the stock cooler. There is a lot of info on the types of coolers in the Q45 forums and the B&M stacked plate coolers were the units of choice.

That's the one I got !!!

They are much more efficient than the tube and fin type plus the have the thermal bypass when the fluid is still cold.

Where did you mount yours G ?

drivers side off the horn on the condenser coil I used long tie wraps with plastic washers to hold them in place.
