Hello Everyone,

I have a 1997 J30t with 65,000 miles in southeastern North Carolina. I would like to install a B&M 70264 transmission cooler. Where should it be located?

Chris

Id put it in between the radiator and condensor that way it always has a constant air flow.....

What he said. That's where my cooler is. It was installed by the folks at T3 in Atlanta last summer.

For people who live in really warm climates with moderate to hot temps all year, i recommend to put it somewhere where it gets direct air flow... Otherwise in between the rad/condensor.....

Either way you cant go wrong with the rad/condensor placement

Hello,

My shop said that the BM 70264 cooler I supplied was too thick to fit between the radiator and the condenser. So they mounted it at the base of the A/C condenser. They may have had to fashion a clamp or holder of some kind. They also replaced the filter and pan gasket, and they replaced the fluid with synthetic. The cost of the mounting was about $200 and the cost of the other servicing, incluiding fluid, was also about $200. My questions are:1. Is this the best place for the cooler, given its thickness?2. Would I have been better off with a different cooler, maybe a 70268, either in terms of cooling or in terms of the labor cost of fitting this cooler where we did?

Chris, I think you'll be just fine. Just having the cooler is a great improvement over the OEM setup. Remember, your old lines ran inside the radiator. The water in there is anywhere around 175-200 degrees (more like 190ish).

That transmission cooler will be MUCH cooler than that radiator water. I was a bit obsessed with the cooler location as well but as long as it gets some ventilation, I think you'll be just fine.

The transmission fluid will be cooler with it there than with it behind the condenser. The AC may not work quite as well, but if it still performs well enough for you then that's all that matters.
