Is it just a screen that can be cleaned or does it need to be replaced ?

Doing a pan drop soon .

Many will disagree wtih me but i think changing the screen is useless... (There is no internal filter, just a screen)...

If you have anything in that screen then your trans is screwed... its far more important to clean the pan..

thanks ..Just found out that both versions have the same part number for the gasket .. DOOH !!

Might go with the kit Napa has .. Has the exact image Joe has on his website !

A little less and no shipping to deal with .Gasket filter and O ring .

Its the more expensive of the two kits they have , But I noticed it doesnt include the crush washer . Guess I'll just get it from Joe and wait till next weekend to get-er-done .

Are the OEM gaskets rubber ?

My experience here.I did it last night. Drain the fuild and drop the pan, clean everthing in the inside and put back together. I start at around 9:30 pm and finished at ~11:00pm (there was nothing good on TV)It is my first time i drop the pan, before that i did about 3 tims drin and refill in the last 4000miles. I agree with elwesso, the chance is, you won't need a tranny filter, unbolt it from the tranny (4 bolts) and clean the screen. My didn't even look dirty, but i cleaned it anyway. The gasket is also reusable, mine was still in perfect shape, cleaned it and put some RTV liquid gasket and put it back on. That is all i did. You'll only need about 3-4 qt of ATF, cause that is how much it 'll come out.

Would have taken some pics, which i always do, but i sold my old DC and the new one hasn't arrived yet.

I recently did it as well. I just could not find the gasket alone but was able to find the kit in one of the local stores. Agree with Wes the screen can just be cleaned there is no filter inside as it looks. But I put the one I had in the kit.

Put Mobil ATF 1. Had some problem due to my stupididty at the beginning as I did not put enough fluid. But when I fulled it up it started runing great.

I did several drains and fillings during one month, every weekend after replacing the screen and cleaning the pan and the magnet. Mine was quite dirty as I suspect the previous owner did not do any flushes (I got it at 85k). It's only after like 3rd - 4th flush that the fluid started coming out clean more or less. My friend was telling me not to do any flushes as he was getting problems before on some american made car after the flush (his transmission failed after the flush). I ran about 12-15 quarts through the trany during this month and now I like how it's working.

M1 is good, but at ~$6.50 a qt and you'll need ~12 qts to do a complete fuild replacement, i just can't ....

I use regular Dexron III at ~$2.25 a qt, i think it was valvoline.

NismoChi,

Yes it is f.. expensive so I was also using some Dexron III for the first 8qts and then put 7 Qts of Mob1. I could not afford and I think it's useless to use Mob1 for everything.
