J30 to 240ZX body switch
Hi people! So,I've got a 1996 J30 (obviously) and I'm sick of the body.My dad previously mentioned that the 240ZX and the J30 have the same engine (or something along those lines).He and my husband offered to change the body on my car to a 240ZX.I'm just wondering how difficult this is going to be,and just little things I'm going to have to worry about.I've honestly got NO idea on how this is going to work,so anything would be really helpful.Thanks! =]

its the 90-96 300zx and J30 that have the same motor
if you want same motor and diff body id just sell the J30 and buy a 300zx. what dont you like about the body style? you can always mod it to alter the everyday normal look of it.
they wouldnt be changing the body, they would pull the motor of the J30 and put it into the 240Z. i dont think the VG will fit in a 240z. probably going to take a lot of modding to the frame rails and such to get it to fit in.
there are many others on here that have their own custom looking rides as well. this is mine.

The J30 is too big and bulky for me.I bought it after my 96 Jetta's transmisson stopped working (we're still wondering what was wrong with it).I desperately needed a car to get to school,work,orchestra,church,etc.It's nothing against the car itself,it's just not for me.
So,a 300zx?That sounds pretty cool.It's not so much what's easier or what's more cost efficient to do,it's just what's more fun.And swapping everything over is gonna be more fun for my guys.
With all that said,what exactly are we getting ourselves into?

A 300ZX has the same engine as the J30. Although there is a twin turbo version as well as a manual transmission.
I must say that's the first time Ive heard someone say a J is big and bulky.
Although my oldest son has a Jetta so I think I get what you mean.
I think a 240/280 Z is what your after.
As Swimshark said the J30 Engine would be tough to fit.
Ive heard the RB Series engine is pretty healthy as is.
A smaller body car that's MUCH lighter.
The J is a lot like the Dallas Cowboys.
You either Love them or Hate them.
