thank you. just bought the car, no maintanance records. from what i can tell the oil has been changed regularly. it had a new air filter in it but doesnt appear to be common practice, the throttle bodies were loaded with residue. havent changed the fuel filter yet, the trans looks like its never been done. dropping the pan tomorrow. i dont think the diff has ever been done either. (tomorrow) judging from the rust on the roof i dont think this car has ever even been waxed. i asked about the timing belt and she didnt believe it had ever been done and the three year battery was four years old with corrosion on the terminals. i replaced the battery with an optima red top 75/35. didnt stop the stalling. did stop the headlights from dimming when the fan kicked on tho. i cleaned the MAF and took it apart and re-soldered some of the pins that looked like they might have broken off of the circuit board. i checked the codes from the check engine light(two 02 sensors, knock sensor, EGR malfunction). i reset them. car ran fine, till the light came back on. hasnt stalled yet but it started running rougher the very moment the light came on.

EGR function is probably clogged EGR tubes.Fairly easy fix.Did mine in an hour or two. Most of the clogging is is where the tubes enter the intake plenum.Do a search and the procedure I posted should pop up.

Sounds like your mechanically inclined so you should have it running well soon.

Along with the pan drop I would suggest a fluid drain refill and the filter and O-Ring replaced. Also very easy.Let me know if you need help with that.Just did it a few months ago.Not a mechanical flush , which is probably better, but a budget minded fluid exchange.Gets 80 to 90 % new fluid in her.

im actually an auto service tech with a whole shop at my disposal. we have a t-tech transmission flusher machine so the only issue will be finding the lines, i havent looked yet. would a clogged egr cause my car to stall tho?

Check the ECU for any codes. Instructions are in one of the "stuck" items in this forum. It will help you narrow things down.

This car gets its best mileage on premium (Octane 90), a bit better on Octane 93.

Odd .The KS will only retard timing ,, shouldnt cause a stall or rough idle.If the O2 sensors are throwing weird voltages it may cause fuel delivery issue's.Just a poke in the dark here.

i kind of thought that myself. dont have the money for those right now tho. i did change the diff fluid today and i changed the trans filter and flushed the trans with 20 quarts using a t-tech. it hasnt stalled since i re-soldered the maf. just runs a little rough every now and then. fuel mileage seems to be back to normal tho.

I hope they work well but I have read so many post of problems with people not using OEM NGK double platinum tipped. That's what I just used to change plugs about 5 months ago.
