Hey all,

Well I'm in the process of doing a little work on the J. I've pulled out all of the spark plugs, and I don't know what to replace them with. The spark plugs that I pulled out were NGK R R PFR5G. I'm the second owner of the car, so I dont know if these are stock plugs or if they've been changed out already. I've browsed the web and haven't been able to find any NGK PFR5G that are specified for a J30. Is this even a good plug? Shall I replace it with something better. I've read a lot of owners having problems with certain types of plugs. Can someone recommend a reasonably priced plug that they've had success with. Do these plugs look like they need replacing?

OH also i've seen that there are normal heat range, and hot heat range plugs. Which do I need? Thanks again in advance for all assistance.

Call them and order OEM plugs, ask for Joe T and he will take care of you.

You know why?? Cause it is not "PFR5G", it should be "PFR5G-11". IT is NGK's Laser Platinum plug, also the orginal equipment that come with the car when new. You can get those at kragen, but they are 18 bucks a pop, not cheap but they'll last yo a long time. Now you have the part #, look around for a better price.

Can't you use standard platinum plugs? I've heard good things about Bosch's "Platinum+4" quad-tip spark plugs. Can be had for $6 each (or less). Plus, they are pre-gapped, which makes installation much easier. I've even heard people having noticeable gains in mileage after replacing with these.

Not Bosch, anything but Bosch. Not that i have anything against Bosch plugs, but Nissan and Bosch don't do well together. if yo don't want to pay $18 a pop for the best plug for your J, get the NGK G-Power Platinum BKR5EGP, they are ~$4 a pop at Kargen, they should be fine too.

thx for the heads up nismo. Ya I took the plug to a local Pep Boys, they recommended NGK v-power plugs. They even said the plug i had wasn't platinum (which i thought they were) and said it's got a iridium tip (dunno if thats accurate). So are the V-powers any good? cause they were 1.89 each. Is there gonna be a big difference between platinum and non platinum? Also the V-power he showed me had a flat head were the spark shoots. Mine's a tiny tip. Sorry about all the Q's, I'm not really spark plug savvy.

thx again

oh Btw i found the PFR5G-11 plugs for 8.25 each, but i dunno still seems kinda expensive. Is there really gonna be a world of difference betwen 2 dollar and 8 dollar plugs?

Not really any performance differences. The plats will just last longer.

The advice from long-term J30 owners is suck it up and buy the OEM plugs. Take it from us, we've used cheaper plugs and more expensive plugs and have had serious problems. There are numerous threads on this baord and others, Stick to OEM, if you don't want headaches.

NGK's or nothing else....never ever ever use any other plug than an NGK!!

This goes for almost all import cars, NGK is the ****!
