Hello all!

I'm brand new to this forum and couldn't be happier to have found it. I've read through quite a bit of it and have to say you all do an excellent job of handling questions and turning out extremely useful information.

As my user name suggests I own a silver 1993 J30 which I purchased in late August with 85,000 miles from an elderly woman who obviously babied the car and it shows...quite a few people think it is a new car. In return for the $5500 I paid for it I got a car that I love more everytime I look at it, drives as though it were new and seems to combine elegance and sportiness in a cohesive blend that few automobiles can match. In short, I'm amazed by the car...It's my first Nissan/INFINITY product and it certainly won't be my last.

So far I've changed the oil as soon as I got it and the timing belt within the first month, the previous owner never had it done, and I'll shortly be getting a transmission flush thanks to all of you.

I'm curious as to what the major magazines, Car and Driver, Road and Track, Motor Trend, had to say about this car in it's time...if anyone knows which issues covered it I'd appreciate hearing from you?

Was it ever tested in head to head competition with the Lexus ES300? Which car won? This I'm particularly curious about since the J30 appears to be more of an ambitious endeavor than the front drive ES300 elevated beyond Camry trim.

Was the J30 more expensive than the I30 when they sold new which I guess was 96-97?

I've read that the J30 uses the base 300zx engine, transmission and chassis which kind of makes it a 4dr 300zx...am I correct here?

Thanks to all of you...I'm happy to be here!

I can't answer all of your questions, but here are the ones I like to cover:

1) The J30 was in a class above the ES300 both in price and perceived market.I have never seen such a comparison and if one had happened it would have been a mismatch like say comparing a Corolla vs a camry (not that those never happen). The ES300 was outclassed in every respect, fit finish, engine, handling, and price by the J30 for all years in which both were made.2) Yes.3) that is also correct, (even tho the interpretation as a 4 door 300ZX could be a subject of argument)

Fred...:)

I would say no. They share the same motor and transmission but that's it. Maybe if they were built on the same suspension platform, but they're not.

Welcome to NiCO and I'm glad you like your car. Sounds like you got a good price for the mileage and quality.
