I have search far & wide before posting this.

I need to replace my rear shocks, 1997 J30 99,000 miles.

Can I do this procedure myself?

Do I need a spring compresser?

From diagrams I have seen it looks like 1 bolt on the top of the shock & one bolt on the bottom.

Also, does anyone know the torque specs for these bolts?

Thanks in advance.

I finally got my rear shocks replaced today

What a difference from even before the rear went out last week.

For everyones info, the shock is removed by removing the nuts that secure the top mount to the body & bottom shock bolt & removing the assembly as a unit. You will need a spring compressor also or should I say obviously.

I replaced the top & bottom rubber bushings, top rubber spring seat & also replaced the boots. I would definately recommend that anyone replacing a shock put all new rubber pieces in. it's worth the extra $31 especially when the shock & boots are $190 each side.

I had a local shop put them in for $130 plus tax.

I feel real sorry for them because half way through the install I asked the mechanic how the old rubber bushings looked? He then picked up the entire assembly that he just replaced the shock in & pointed to them & said they look ok. He didn't replace the new rubber bushings because he didn't go through everthing in the box. He had to remove the shocks again & re-install the rubber bushings & in doing so broke the top of one of the shocks rendering it useless

They had to go to the local Infiniti dealer & get one for $179 their cost

$584.00 total for new rear shocks.
