well after months of searching i finally found a infiniti mechanic, he works at the local infiniti dealer but he owns his own shop on the side. i had him look at my j30, he adjusted my tps to the correct place, he also told me that its time to replace my timing belt, i have a list of the things i need.timing belt, water pump, (4) cam seals, (1) crank seal, and a timing belt tensioner. i found most of the parts at infinitipartsusa.com and they have some great prices. he is charging me $300.00 for the job, do you guys think that is a reasonable price? seems a little bit too much for me. he also told me that the spark plugs that i used to replace the old ones (which were the original DENSo ones) were not good for my car and he recommended NGK. Im asking anyone who owns a j30, What kind of spark plugs do you use?

$300 for a timing belt! Get it done before he changes his mind - that's a great deal! Even a better deal in CA. Typically $500-1000 I'd think. The OEMs are NGK, and that's what I'd go back with. Do a search for spark plugs and you'll see many horror stories about non-OEM plugs.

While you're there: upper, lower, and bypass coolant hoses; all drive belts and the thermostat. NGK are the original plugs.

Get all the parts from Joe.

Very important to let us know: how many miles on your J?

I just recieved a quote from my local Infiniti dealer here in Des Moines,Ia for $925 + tax to change my belt & seals. My car is a 97 j30 w/ 98k. I thought about doing it myself, but I'd be screwed if I messed something up. Anyone know any reputable mechanics in the Des Moines area who would be more reasonable?

Change the upper, lower and bypass hoses while you're there. The water pump and thermostat should also be changed. This could drasticly increase your quoted price. Any good "foreign car" shop should be able to perform the service.

Just FYI, I bought all the parts for a '95 300zx from Scottsdale, including the belt, tensioner, orings, seals/gaskets, bypass hoses, water pump, accessory belts, thermostat, etc. Total including shipping was $331.
