I am looking at taking on a project here and I need to have a few things cleared up.

Does anyone have any pictures of a J30 engine craddle/front crossmember?

I have heard that the J30 is built on a stretched S14(could be S13) chassis, can anyone confirm?

Will a J30 front crossmember w/engine mounts bolt into an S13 chassis? will the suspension bolt up? any info would be greatly appreciated.. thanks!

Great questions. Sorry I can't give you any answers but maybe some of the brethren will. Are you thinking about putting a VG30DE in your s13?

yeah thats what Im getting at, I can geta VG30DET with transmission for $850. comes out of a JDM market Cima. has a different intake manifold on it so, it will clear the hood, just checkin for stock parts that can be used before I have to get cu$tom peices made.

I'm confused. There was a VG30ET, VG30DETT and VQ30DE and a VQ30DET. The VG's were in the J30, but the VQ's were in the I30's, Maxima, and the VQ30DET was in the Cima or Q45.I don't know the answer to your question, but it's the motor you're using that confuses me.

the VG30DET came in Cimas before the VQ engine debuted. I think it was 90 to 92 model years. It is internally identical to the VG30DETT of the TT 300zx. It just had a single turbo instead of the twin sep up. these motors sell for $850 w/transmission while the 300zxTT motor alone goes for $2000. that one of the main reasons I want it. it also has a different intake manifold that will clear the hood of a 240sx.

Sounds too good to be true but intriguing nonetheless. How much for only the manifold and turbo?

The major problem with retro fitting the J is engine bay configurqation and lefthand drive.

You wouldn't have pictures of a VG30DET would you?

What are the major differences between a VQ and VG engine?

this is the VG30DE in its other form, the one that spawned the VG30DET, which is the same from the exterior with the addition of an aluminum intake pipe to replace the black plastic one in the background, with the words "ceramic turbo"

Thanks for the link. That VG looks quite a bit different than the VG30DE. Different enough that adding the DET manifold and turbo would, alas, be another significant engineering challenge for retrofitting into the J.

I found this on Ebay, its old, but the pics are still there

this is the infamous VG30DET. kind of looks like a CA18DET, or at least the valve covers and timing belt covers. I know where I can get these with transmissions for $850, no harnesses or computers tho, all cut. If anyone is interested, shoot me an email and I'll give you the companys phone number. I am getting one as soon as my tax refund comes in, lol!

youre right mike, there will likely be problems since the turbo ends up on the drivers side, just like with the VG30DETT and its inehrent PS clearance issues.

correct me if i am wrong, but i thought (to be legal) you had to put in an engine of the same year or newer as originally equipped...might be hard to find a VG30DET thats 93 or newer...
