J30 Protective exhaust plate came off

Hey Guys,

I've had a steel cover plate come off of my exhaust system (about half way down the car, there is one on each side covering a widening in the pipe (not sure what that is)) but it is attached by these metal strips that are bolted onto the plate then attached to the exhaust. the strips have rusted and broken off. The plate is still good..I'm wondering what should I do? Can I order the plate with new strips and reattach? Or should I come up with some rigged up strips and try to reattach..or just leave it off? (I suspect it's to protect the exhaust from something smacking a hole in it or from rain and such)

Any ideas for this newbie J30 owner?

You are refering to some heat shielding. Mine have both came off within days of each other. The upper part remains so the car is shielded. You can leave them off or spot weld them back on. Just be careful parking over a pile of dead leaves if you leave them off.
