When I bought my J30 last month, I noticed that the antenna was broken and needed to be replaced. So, I got on e-bay and was able to buy the whole antenna assembly. I thought it was goin to be a simple plug and play but as I turned on my radio, nothing happened and when I turned off the radio, the antenna raised up. I was confused. One note is that the previous owner had replaced the stock Bose system with a pioneer head unit and he did some wiring to make the speaker work somehow. Anyway, there is a slew off rats nest wires in the dash that I didn't know where to start. I opted to look at the power antenna end (trunk to see whether I can just reverse the polarity of the wires so that it will work opposite from how it is working now. I noticed that the power antenna itself (motor) has 5 wires (red, black, brown, blue/red, and yellow) in the male connector. The connector coming from the head unit itself only has 3 wires (black, yellow/red, and green/orange) in the famale connector. My question is which of these wires can I switch so that I can get a desirable result from my power antenna. I need help!

Might be worth getting a multimeter and a friend and checking the wires in the back. See which one gets voltage when the antenna goes up and which one has voltage when the antenna goes down.

My real suggestion would be to get an adapter and try to clean up the rats nests best you can. check out this thread about a 94 J30.

With a multimeter, that problem can be solved in minutes. Just make sure that you test the wires when the ignition is in the on position and the off before you go and make your connections. If you dont, your power antenna could go up when you want it to, but when you turn off the car, the antenna would only go down about 3 inches as it would not have the power when the ignition is turned off. Unless you can get the wiring diagram for the J. If that sounds hard, throw me an email and I'll help ya sort it out.

All right. I'll give that a shot this weekend. I'll let you know how it turns out
