J30 Performance Muffler

I'm in search of a high quality performance muffler for my J30. I looked at Maxspeed, HKS, and a bunch of other brands. As I researched on, I found that these universal performance mufflers should really be on cars such as Honda Civics’ and such. I thought to myself why would I want my Infiniti to sound like a civic?

If someone has purchased a high quality performance muffler for an Infiniti J30 or knows a quality brand (with the stainless steel finish dual tip) for high quality imports, I would appreciate some advice on what type of performance muffler my Infiniti J30 should have.

Your only options for exhaust components for the J are Nissan OEM or custom (usually more $$$).

The only thing you need custom is the piping.

Then you can just get cats and mufflers from borla, magnaflow etc.

i agree with this i had a custom 2 1/4 inch cat back with borla's Universals turbos put on only thing i would of change is might of gone more with the XL's they say its for the larger engines but i think they would be quieter then the just the turbos personally i think its sounds to much like a ricer and not enough like a purrrrrrring cat my 2 cents

Question: Since Borla's Universal Mufflers are not polished, what did you do to make it look nice? I checked out all of those Magnaflow, Borla, and Dynomax unpolished mufflers, but they did not get my attention as the stainless steel chrome mufflers did. I may be thinking unprofessionally, but the question goes back to what type of quality performance muffler is already stainless steel (Chrome) that I could consider, rather than buying a $100 buck HKS Civic Garbage?

if this is your daily driver i really wouldn't recommend putting the stainless on there you will end up in the long run having them discolor and start to yellow. i had stainless tips put on mine and yes they are almost yellow (get what you paid for) so unless your going for show i dont see the point but also its is your car just my thought. as for what i did to make it nice the mufflers in the first place are of a nice quality already and im (some can say anal) about how the work gets done to prove point the shop ended up doing it twice because the bends looked horrible and they tried to use clamps at one spot!!! but now it looks very nice to the eye but you only see them when your behind the car. They're some other people that took their car to authorized borla shops one i know of had his hole system done. i do feel that if i get the rest of it done (manifolds to mufflers including new cats) that the over all tone will lower and be to my satisfaction.

But to answer your question on which ones to buy, thats to the owner to decide i can only give my experience. just remember on all the high end cars (infiniti, Benz, BMW...)i couldn't imagine them putting anything that would even think you could put on a civic. thats just wrong no affence to the civic owners out there its just a differnet class of car
