The check engine light on my 95 J30T has been coming on intermittenly for several months. How can I check to be sure it is the O2 sensor before going to the trouble to replace (short of taking it to a mechanic)? Also, is there a good how-to someone might know about?

What makes you absolutely sure that the CEL, signifies a bad O2 sensor?

Best bet is to plug in a scan tool and retrieve the codes. If you got a Pep Boys or Autozone in your area. Take it there. They will retrieve them for free.
