I have an opportunity to get a very nice 95 Q45. Are these good cars.? I've looked at the Q site in nico, but was wondering what opinions (if any) J30 owners have of the Q, particularly the 95 era.

Thanks in advance!

If I could afford to buy one and bring it to OEM specs I would grab it in a second.3K easy to get it to spec.Unless of course it was kept in perfect condition.

I had a chance about a year ago to get a 1 owner, dealer maintained, low mileage 96 Q for $6,500 from my wife's boss that retired and moved out of state. At the time I couldn't justify spending any more money on a car when we had 2 that worked just fine.

They cost more but are:

I think there is a problem with chain guides for the timing chain for Q's in that era that can destroy the engine (chain guides disintegrating). Make sure, either they are the new design or knock some cash off the sale and DIY. Its time consuming but straightforward to do.

94 and up don't have the plastic chain guide issue.

There are actually some nice body kits for the mid 90's Q45, if you're into that.

Not a J owner (yet), but I know a little about the Q45s.

Too big for my taste, but like driverdriver said, they are more mod friendly than a J30. @ least you can get an aftermarket off the shelf full exhaust & intake, along with rims & a body kit. As much as I love the J30s, they aren't mod friendly except for the rims, stereo, & other cosmetics. Performance parts have to be custom made for the J's, but not for the Q's.

I've passed on the Q. I think they're nice, but not as nice as a J30. There is something about the fit and finish of the J30 that to me exudes classic quality. I rode in my friend's brand new G35 the other day. It is a very nice car, has a lot more room, and certainly out performs the J. But to me, it seemed to be of much poorer quality than the J...lots of plastic. Also, I do think the J's lines are classic and unique.

The Q's of the same era (while cool) seem a lot more like a big old car... though I do like the V8 and the room. I'm not at all into modding the car anyway. Thanks for your comments.

Based upon what I read on the J30 and Q45 forums, and my own experience with my 94 J30T I would say the J30 is a more reliable car, has less major problems, and is cheaper to fix when something does happen. The board gurus on the Q45 board say to expect to spend around an average of $3000 a year to repair and maintain a Q45. In the four years I have owned my J30T I estimate I spent a total of maybe $300 on repairs and maintenance, and it is still running strong at 192,000 miles. In fact I just put 400 miles on it in the past two days with no sign of any problems other than a few annoyances like the power door locks and dashboard dimmer control that I never bothered to fix. Only engine problem I ever had in the last four years was a leaky radiator hose that I fixed for $14.
