I have the option to pick up a '91 Z32 NA diff and/or a '97 J30 diff. I understand that the J30 is a direct swap in (save for ABS sensor possibly making a tight fit with the driveshaft), but the Z32 has the beefier rear diff cover. I was thinking about just buying them both and throwing the J30 flanges in the Z32 diff. Would that be the ideal way to go? What would you do with that option?

According to Orions's writeup at http://www.ka24development.com early 97 J30 (thru 1/97?) bolt-in. The later 97's dont. If it has 6 bolt output flanges, it will bolt in.

Ok, after a little more research I guess you CAN'T use the Z32 diff cover? Am I correct? If so, I think this will be my plan...pick up both diffs, swap the output flanges from the J30 onto the Z32. The Z32 won't have the ABS sensor so I won't have the driveshaft issue. Then I will just whore out the J30 LSD assembly minus the output flanges on ebay and try and get money back. And again, for reference, the J30 diff DOES have the 6 bolt flanges.... 3 sets of 2. So does that sound like an okay plan?

I'm kinda confused about what youre trying to do. You want to use the Z32 diff because it doesnt have the ABS sensir to worry about, right? The only thing you need besides the Z32 diff is the 6 bolt output flanges. Theres got to be a cheaper way to get the flanges without buying a whole J30 diff
