Replaced timing belt yesterday and when I bumped the key it made the sound like when you try to start and already running car - That's the best way I can describe it. I removed the starter during the timing belt. Its the initial sound (not the belt squeal or heat shield rattle)

That's definitely your starter.

Thank you! Kind of a relief. Nothing like starting a car after a timing belt and hearing that! Since it was fine before the timing belt is it possible it's just installed wrong or I have a pinched or disconnected wire. Didn't think starters just fail all of a sudden. Could this also damage my flywheel?

flywheel sounds different, its a screech that goes away.

That is the starter.

Back in the day, dealers/and 300zx or J30 specialist shops would recommend changing the starter while changing the timing belt. Both are in the same area and thus you would only pay the labour charge once.
