I've a j30 96 which just had all but the muffler changed on the exhaust system. I've shopped around but no one offers a muffler for this vehicle and I don't want to shell 600-800 to infinity. I'd like a quiet! muffler, silence is golden on this car. Any ideas ?

post a want it now on ebay and see what you can get, meybe you'll be lucky

also, call around junk yards to locate a j30, the mufflers on our Js are good, it is rare to get a hole in the muffler (i think)

once you get the muffler, it is an extra 100 bucks or so for the install at a local muffler shop

I've got a nice rust free extra. Make it worth me packing it up and shipping it to you and it's yours.

Don't mind trying! Just this are we sure yours is a direct fit for mine ? I need to get 5 years out of it.... how long has this extra been on a car? Mine muffler dims are : about 24" length, two 1.75 inlet pipes located (enter)at a 45 degree angle in the front , two exit from the back. Thanks

All the J's are the same so, yeah, it's the same.

It came off a 93 but I live in Mississippi and we get ZERO snow so there is ZERO salt. Absolutely no rust. It should last you for a long while.

I've been led to believe the insides maybe rusted out enough to make all the awful noise. Looks ok from the outside. In the last year I've changed both cat's and resonators, this is the only thing left on the exhaust system that could be making the god awful noise.. right?

What kind of noise and where is it coming from?

Sometimes loose shields make an awful sound.

FYI when I was collecting information for one of the J30 "stickys" on this forum awhile back ago, on the people from Infiniti Canada told me a number of components for the J30 where "over-engineered". One of them was the exhaust and muffler. It was supposed to be good for 20 years of service under normal driving conditions..........thought I would share.

Sounds like a loose tin can at anything over idle. All the shields over the years have been torn off and the remainder under the hood seem ok. I've been told that the internals on the infinity muffler are carbon steel and may have rusted loose. Mounts seem ok too.

The rear section will unbolt. You could take it off and drive it to see if the tin can sound leaves. The exhaust tone will be louder but you could at least see if the sound you are talking about is in the rear muffler.
