My 1997 J30 has a strange malady...if I start it and only let it run for a few minutes, i.e. if I crank it to put it in the garage, then shut her off, when I go to restart, usually the next a.m., she turns over fine, but acts as if she is starved for fuel. I have to hold the accelerator down to get it started, and then it feels like it is only running on 4 cyls...once I get on the road, it smooths out. This never happens if I drive it enough to reach normal operating temps. This has been happening for the past 3,000 miles I would say.

Facts: Current odometer 110,000K, new timing belt, fuel filter, installed at 105K, by T3 Automotive. Spark plugs were changed at 60K by Infiniti dealer, air cleaner is fine. Any ideas...?

Q/J should never be started unless you intend to leave running for at least 6 minutes [more in winter less in summer].

The cold start enrichment [under 176F coolant temp] flows a tremdendous amount of fuel..............cranking at the curb and driving into a garage and shutting off is a sure way to leave it flooded for the next start.

Strange you just noticed it, have you changed habits?

About 1 out of 5 cars towed to T3 suffer from this conditions even though we warn and warn owners.

The normal proceedure is to signal ecu [to choke the fuel] by turning key on flooring accelerator TOTALLY, then crank, and not letting off till it starts.................and changing your habits concerning short trips.

The 4.0L straight 6 engines in the jeeps were really bad for this too. The porters at the dealership would come back at least once a month to say they had a Jeep that wouldn't start.

They would do the same thing moving a car from one parking spot to another in the lot, running it for like 30 seconds at a time.
