Hi,

What's involved in modifying Z32 headers to fit on a J? What kind of cutting and welding would need to be done for fitment? Were there ever headers specifically made for a J? I'm guessing no.

I ordered 2 manifolds off eBay (the current ones on the car are cracked), and am not impressed with the condition of one side. The other one looks to be okay, but I will further inspect them later when I have more time. One of them has a chip near one of the studs, and I'm afraid that under bolt pressure a crack could form. I'm waiting to see what the salvage yard is going to do about the return.

The manifolds were off a '97, and I have a '94. The '97 manifolds I purchased have bolt-on heat shields all around almost every square inch of the manifold, which differentiates from mine in that the '94's have heatsheilds that are welded around the manifold. If I get a new good part, I'm hoping they fit.

Thanks.

93/94 J30 comes with tubular stainless factory shorty header, 95-97 are cast iron logs with a smaller outlets but both are interchangeable, the center 2 head studs need to be reversed. I believe Swimshark did a dyno comparison but right now I aint searching.

Before discovering the tubular exhaust on the earlier model J, we took a set of factory z32 tubular manifolds and modified them, it was a huge undertaking as they hit everything, lined up with nothing. Drivers side wont clear the rack (not sure about the a/c) and passenger side they hug the block and interfere with both the oil filter and motor mount then neither match the down pipe. DO not bother

The biggest gains were realized after s***-canning the factory mufflers, there was such a difference I cut one open and was amazed to see how restrictive and heavy they were, dump the 2 under the rear floor and get something like free flow Borlas, skip all the flowmaster junk it made our car resonate badly and felt slower.

Not the prettiest but it pulls good and sounds great.

The j30 log manifolds produced more torque but less hp.

Thanks, that place is amazing, the back stretch esses are a blast @ 100.

Think about this, a J won the very first auto race there! Chump returns at the end of the year but we have to choose between there and Road Atlanta.
