I had taken the lsd center section out of a 95 j30 an put the 4.08 ring gear on it. Put that back in the 240 rear end, keeping the shims and spacer the same as the 240 open diff. The short/left half shaft goes right in, the longer/right shaft goes in all but about a quarter inch or so. Will go no further.

Can anyone help me fix this, is something backwards?

that's because it's a viscous LSD, it uses special unequal length output shafts, the cv shafts from an s14 se which came with a vlsd, you'll most likely need the companion flanges as well

you might be able to use the companion flanges and shafts from the J but not sure of the track width is close enough

Thanks for the replies. I was told you can just use the center section and the output shafts form the j30 (6 bolt) and can swap that over to the 240 rear. So this is not true?

maybe? when dealing with the R200, some cars use output shafts that the CV shafts bolt to and others the CV shaft has the stub coming right out of it, assuming the J used flanges seperate of the CV's and they physically fit then yes you can use them, on the wheel side of things the bolt pattern might be different if so you'll have to swap the companion flanges

I have no personal experience with the J or the 240 SX but I know it's the same basic subfram used in the Z32 and the Q45 but that the track width varies as well as brakes and stub axles, there is definitely a way of making ti work it's just a matter of using the right combination of parts, also the pinion flange on some models differ but they should swap right over
