I'm almost done with my other s13's clutch job (just waiting on some parts and it'll be CLEAN) So now I'm trying to figure out how to install my j30 lsd PROPERLY into my 93 s13. Here's what I know so far:

Need to swap out rear covers (2 bolts opposed to 4)Need correct LSD Gear fluid - What weight should I get? ??????80-90W????Need to add LSD additive to the gear oil

*******Need to remedy the front bushing problems*******This one's the one I need help with. I read somewhere that I need the setup to be like so: BoltWasherMount (bushing)WasherSubframe

If anyone can elaborate more on the front busings problem with the s13, it would help me alot. I've read the remedies in a thread somewhere, but everytime I search for j30/s13/lsd or any combination of those keywords I come up with useless information. Thanks for the help guys~!!!!!

front bushings for what? tension rod bushings? sway bar? control arms?

I would recommend 75W-90 for diffy fluid

From my website...

"Nissan recommends 80W-90 oil, 1.5 liters (3 1/8 pints)... " - GL5 oil...

"You don’t have to use a fluid designed for an LSD as the R200V uses a sealed unit..." - So don't worry about LSD additives...those are for clutch type diffs.

And the front of the diff just needs to be secure - If you only use the S13 bolts, it will fall. SO add washers up top, add them below, use bushings, or don't...just make sure the diff is mounted basically flat under the car (i.e. not at an angle) and has a washer on the bolt so that the diff is held by more than the rubber bushing - I have seen the bushings fall out more than once...

What is the best way to get rid of the ABS sensors (both wires)? Should I just cut them at the end and throw them away or what? Do not want to mess anything up. P.S I do not have ABS!!Thanks!!

Hey brian, thanks for the info~! Just need a few things clarified though:

Should the 80w-90 be GEAR Oil or will regular Motor Oil work? For the washers and the bushings, what should the washer cover? Do I need a big enough washer that secures and covers the entire bushings itself? Or should it go all the way out until it covers the metal part of the Diffy that's holding the bushings? Also, do I need to remove the upper bushing that goes to the subframe of the car? Or should I just stick another washer in there? Thanks B`!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting a 95 or 96 J30 LSD. I have a 92 240sx and No ABS. Will it still bolt up just by swaping rear covers. Nick

Why just swap back cover. Mind as well gut out the lsd, and take it to a mechanic with impact wrench, so you can swap the ring gear with the orginal(it's on there tight). It works out pretty good, and you have a correct gear raito. Adds little more time, but it's correct for those who are prefectionist.

Oh yeah you can't use the J30 pumpkin, must use the orginal. So all you are doing is swapping the VLSD & output flanges.

Use a ~2" washer...needs to be big enough to meet the mounting surface of the diff - If it just covers the busing, the bushing can still fall out.

And GL5 is specifically a GEAR OIL.

WhItES13:

Just cut the wires...

574-240sx:

Read the link above, it's all there. Including a summary at the bottom.

One_Beer:

But then you have to go through the FSM procedure of shimming, backlash, etc...it's really not worth it, cost wise. If you're worried about a 4% reduction, then get a Z32 N/A diff and use new output shafts or '92-94 J30 axles = Easier and cheaper.

Huh...? What do you mean???

Bolts in just fine. It's ~5/8" longer, but the play in the driveline and engine mounts soak that up...

So I can just swap covers on the J30 and mine and i will be fine if I use the J30 punkin and my rear cover. So, everything will bolt correctly? Nick
