I found a 95 J30 LSD and I'm thinking about buying it for my S13, but I'm a little bit worried about the difference in the gearing-- I know people say it's better for turbo, but really I dont wanna give up anything off the line either... plus the 10% speedo difference is a little bit of a pain. Do you think it's worth it to spend the extra money and just get a JDM S13 VLSD, or should I just get the J30 and be done with it?

i just installed mine in my 89 coupe..didnt notice a difference gearing wise ..i dont know what they hype is about...

however..the car feels more controlable now with the new diff..its like i know what the car wants to do, and its easier to manouver.

i recommend it!

the j30 rear is only 4% taller. 3.916 compared to 4.08

heres an interesting little tidbit. i was figuring tire sizes, gear ratios, and the transmission from the rb25det.

with a rear 255/40-17 tire, the j30 3.916 rear, and the rb25det transmission, the top of 5th gear at 8000 rpm is 202 MPH

now thats sick... granted your gonna need like 5 or 6 hundred horsepower

gawd that makes me want one that much worse now. just think, 202mph should be able to outrun radio waves since you can lose the helicopter and ditch out under something. sign me up any day.

Can someone explain to me how a 3.9 final drive is "better for turbo" than a 4.08 fd? If it is purely a matter of lack of traction with more hp, I could just get wider/stickier tires.

Also, is it possible/difficult to swap out the ring and pinion gears from the 240sx diff into the j30 diff?

I installed 95 j30 VLSD on mine 95 240 sx se and did not notice any speed change. P.S. I think LSD from Z300 is good for turbo cars, It has about 20% laller gear. I could be wrong. What do you think?

problem with the z32 lsd's is you have to buy output shafts, and its expensive. 95+ j30 is a direct bolt in, at least for s14's i know.

sorry if im digging up old threads, was just searching for the final drive ratio.

if you can find a j30 cheap enough, go with that, the gearing isnt noticable to me.

I bought a pre 95 j30 lsd and also bought the axles, fits fine with the only modification being the to mounting bushings on the diff. Just switch your old open diff bushings with these and you'll be fine.

So what year j30 lsd's will bolt up. I like the 3.916 gearing.
