This afternoon after a 45 mile ride I got out of my J30 to discover that the front driver's side appeared to have a flat tire. The tire however was fine and the front bumper on the driver's side is now only about 4 inches off the ground. Is this likely a bad strut which is locked in place? The car had been riding very stiff for the past month or so (116K mi). Does anyone know if it may still be possible to replace only the cartridge- if it is the strut in this position?

Thanks,David

Update: After my post, I slowly jacked up the front of the car. As it ascended, I heard a "whoosh" sound and the car went back into its normal position (?) Is this likey to happen again? Is it safe to drive?

Struts normally do not effect ride height. I was going to say you likely have a cracked spring after reading the first post. After the second one it sounds like a bent strut rod was binding in the strut somehow. I've never herd of something like that before.

I would go over all the suspension components on that corner of the car before replacing the strut.
