If not aluminum, then it's some other non-magnetic silver metal. I saw one or two in junkyards which had been crumpled up front, and where the paint had chipped away you could see a silver metal that would not rust. Magnesium is the only other metal I know of like this, but I find it hard to believe they'd use it so close to the engine.
I thought about polishing up the hood to shine like the cars that are painted to resemble aluminum, but ended up selling before I got a chance. If someone tries this, PLEASE post photos
