Hey guys, as you may know from my other posts, the sunroof on my 95 J30 is broken. Rapairing it involves the removal of the headliner.

I'm looking in my manual and if I'm reading this right, I have to remove all the seats before I can remove the side trim panels and then I can get to actually removing the headliner.

Am I on the right track?! Seems like a HUGE amount of work just to get the headliner out.

In any case, I'm thinking about taking pics with the digital cam to create a nice step-by-step DIY document for my fellow J30 brethren. I have my own internet domain so I may put up a website with a couple DIY articles on the J30. I'm also about to do the window regulator and I'm a pro at that. ;)

That sounds about right... at least that's what you'd have to do on the Q. Just be careful of scratching trim panels with the seat tracks... I replaced my center console from that just last summer.

The photo tutorial sounds like a great idea!

Carlos,

I plan do do this job in the summer, and would be very interested in a walk-through. Infinti has a service bulletin on the rail assembly, though I'm not sure it covers the removal of the headliner.

Good looking out.

A step by step guide for the regulators and the sun roof would be great (I'm knocking wood like crazy now but I know it's only a matter of time). As I mentioned before, dealerships charge an arm and a leg for the sun roof fix. I thought I might have a quote in my files that I can't locate but ~$2000 is a realistic retail price. The kit is $35. The remainder is a lot of labour. However, you can probably get the job done as fast and with more care than an inexperienced tech. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Who would dare allow an inexperieced tech to work on their car [sunroof].............you always demand the same mastertech and tip him accordingly. Since you are a regular 90 day oil change customer and you use the same service writer they respect your request. You did give them Xmas presents along with your mailperson right [no Anthrax delivered here].

Ha! One of the byproducts of soaking up the valuable (literally) info here is that you don't get to know a service writer or the dealership too well. I haven't seen my independent guys for months. Maybe I should send them a "Just Thinking about You" greeting card to let them know that I will bring the J in for work eventually. That might cheer 'em up a bit. :D

Hey guys, I paid for a subscription to ALLDATA (http://www.alldata.com) for my j30 and it has ALL the Infiniti TSBs in there. It looks like I'm going to be busy fixing all sorts of gremlins on the J30.

The TSB for the sunroof repair includes detailed diagrams showing what needs to be done. Not bad for $25.00. The alldata membership is $25 for the first year, $15 per year after that. Additional vehicles are also $15/year.

If I don't use this for anything else, it will be worth it $25 to get these detailed instructions for the sunroof repair. I'm still going to see about doing my own documentation for you guys.

interesting. What kind of format does ALLDATA give it to you in? Is it something you can save and keep?

interested here in the alldata too.

I had the interior of my J30 completely out over the summer, everything besides the headliner itself. seats are no prob, neither are the panels. set aside a few hours and youll be able to get at the sunroof mechanism.

Well, it's straight html (text with some images), I don't know if you can save it but of course, I'm sure there are copyright issues. I'll see about saving these but I cannot post the alldata documents on a website.

I'll see what I can do.

you can save any webpage as a web archive, single file by clicking on FILE>SAVE AS, and then changing the type to .mht, at least that way you can save the documents for your own use later on.
