Just bought my daughter a 1993 J30t with 46300 miles for $600. (Flooded New Orleans water 4" to 5" in floor just under seats) Replaced ECU passanger side floor board. Motor cranks and runs fine. The problem is with the head lights and Tail lights, Head lights stay on bright can not dim (all 4 lights on at same time). So I changed the head light relay, no change. No fuses blown all fuseable links ok. The car has brake lights and turn signals no running lights or dash lights.

Is there a chance that your car is equipped with a DRL module? Look for an electrical box along the driver side, between the front suspension mount and firewall. Report back.

hmm.... i seem to be having a funny problem too. my dtrl's donnot turn on and my left headlight doesnt turn on low or high beam. they worked fine before... they were a little dim and use to flicker a bit now stopped working altogether. my parking lights turn on when i turn on my acc and low beam light. furthermore my dtrls on the headlights and tail lights donnot work at all. is this the dreaded headlight relay. i did some searches and it sounds menacing. how hard is it really to fix the relay? or is it altogether worth buying a new 1?

My '94J30t had this same problem a few years ago, but it was intermittent. High beams only, no dash lights, other weird stuff. Replaced headlight relay and it didn't fix it. Took it to the dealer about 5 times before they finally found it. Turned out to be something like a loose wire or wet wire in the trunk or taillight area.

It's an easy fix. You basically disconnect the wiring going to the existing DRL module(the bad one) and attach it into the new DRL module. I blew my DRL module about 6-7 years ago when I installed replacement bulbs of the wrong voltage. My symptom was that all four lights came on during the day and in the night when I switched on my headlights I got no lights.

should i take the car to the dealer and have them service it? instead of trying to fix it myself?

That's a matter of personal preferance. If you got a dry, heated garage away from the elements you can try it yourself, otherwise take it to a garage.

I want to thank everyone for there reply. I found the problem! It was a wire that had burned into just before it went in to the tail light relay. When i fix the wire it took care of the tail lights and the head lights thanks everyone.
