Is there any way to improve the gas mileage in the J30? I've heard that with high flow air filters there is a sustantial improvement in gas consumption efficiency. Is that true?. If that is true, do you recommend such kind of filters in the J30? Another question: if most of the Nissan engines are very effcient in gas consumption, why the J30 engine does not have such feature? I'll appreciate your comments.

Are you using premium or regular gas? I've always found I get much better mileage running premium. A K&N air filter has improved my mileage a bit.

I'm using premium. I'll try with the H&N filter. Thank you very much for your comments

I've also found that fuel injector cleaning over the years have helped.

I would not under any (except racing) circumstances put a K & N air filter on your Infiniti. The slight increase in HP is more than offset by the poor filtration you will get. Unless these guys have done some major redesign, stick with OEM!

I put one on my car not because I THOUGHT it would give me extra horsepower but rather because I dont like to change it every 10k. Id rather just clean it and be done.

K&N Filter with the oil pleated element is not recommended for nissan/infiniti's. Nissan has service bulletins outlining their use concerning unstable idle, poor maf readings due to the oil coating clouding the air flow sensor element etc.etc. You will be using it at your own risk.. You don't want to replace an air flow sensor..can hit your wallet hard..

Although the J30 engine is the same as the one found in the same-model year 300Zx (non-turbo).

The J30 weighs much more than the Z and the transmission is geared differently. The reality is that the J really needs a larger engine.

My J has always had less than optimal gas mileage as compared to other cars but is in-line with J30 mileage.

It is a shame the 4.1 V8 in the japanese version J. leopard ferrie was not brought here.. Look at some of the grills here: http://members8.tsukaeru.net/jferie//dscn0073.jpg Even the cosmetic options are pretty aesthetic..

Check your tire pressure (I run around 35 psi). In the winter, use the ECON mode of the climate control. Some people say that synthetic lubricants improve mileage, but I don't know. Has your mileage gone down recently? What sort of mileage are you seeing?

I've used a K&N Filter since 1995, no complaints either.

.actually,i know many jeep racers and jeep club dudes, most all the ones i know use k&n on there injected jeeps.but they also use the extra cover over it to make sure dirt dont go thru.amazing what thery go thru.im sure they got no complaints either.heres something off the wall, make an oil bath.cleanest ive ever ran, lol.on my 58 chevy..one thing for sure.if its not prep properly when cleaned or install and you get happy with the oil,i could see a proplem then.but not if you know what your doing.if i lived in a dusty valley id use an additional cover or build a sand trap.depends.ok,enough out of me.
