Is the pump in a j30 Bosch part number 61024K? Mines been whining for the past month or so now so im guessing it needs to be replaced... better now then when it totally goes taking the fuel modulator wit it. Im correct about that last statement right???

What year and how many miles on your J? How loud is this noise? A failing J fuel pump is not a common problem, in my limited knowledge.

Mine has made the high pitch noise for two years now. (or as long as I've owned it) I can only hear it when the stereo is off. It's a very soft high pitch sound. Obviously the pitch changes with the throttle. It still works properly and creates the right pressures as needed.

I got a '95 J30 wit 100k miles on it.... So ur saying i should just live with the pump whine? It gets pretty loud in the morning when the cars been sittin.. but it calms down when u put a few miles on it kinda if it warms up... but the whine is alwayz noticable... and it changes of course with throttle.

This is anecdotal but if I have the radio on I don't notice the noise. Radio off I can hear it if I listen for it. It's not noisy enough to immediately draw attention to itself if you know what I mean. The ABS self test is louder.

Ok well im guessing vimyj that yours is running normally since ur pump whine isnt that noticable. Mine on the other hand can be considered screaming. Can anyone answer my first post u know if that part # is correct and if the pump goes so does the modulator thing?

there's a good chance it's going on ya then if it's that loud. Of course it's louder during cold starts because of how rich the car runs during warm up cycle. I would go ahead and contact Joe now and replace the thing. It's a DIY job, probably easier with as little fuel in the tank as possible.

Have you replaced the fuel filter at anytime?

If you do it, take some pictures for us and we'll make a writeup DIY out of it.

make sure youve got a fire extinguisher handy, and try not to wear clothes that you know to cause static electricity!

from working in an office I can testify that Dr. Martin shoes/boots create significantly LESS static electricity compared to most tennis shoes. Jus an FYI. ;) so don't be wearing a wool sweater and smoking cigarettes while you're doing it.
