"SR20DET" fuel pumps shouldn't be any more or less unreliable than any other fuel pump. It really depends on where you obtained it, the condition of it, and it's history.
If you are obtaining USED fuel pumps from SR20DET-powered cars your results will certainly vary. It is very likely that they will die right away for one particular main reason: when you take a fuel pump out of a system without properly cleaning it and; and also if you run a fuel pump designed to function in-tank outside for any extended periods, you reduce it's life. Without cleaning, the fuel left in the pump and various other sediments will form a layer of a powdery residue that will damage the pump. Also, the fuel sock should be changed at the point of installation.Fuel pumps usually die after a long service life, but if you have rust and or dirt in your tank (and let your tank run down to empty or so), or a really restrictive fuel system, possibly due to not changing your filter or a faulty regulation system, then no matter what pump you run, it will die right away.
That said, on your original question:
The flow characteristics should be similar, but the stock pumps may not exactly match. I cannot confirm this for you, but they have different part numbers from what I know on the net. Also, from experience, they should not be "prone to failure" any more so than any other well-made fuel pump.
