Sup guys, i ordered the j30 deluxe strut/shock kit from Joe at Infiniti of Scottsdale and attempted to install this kit today and i ran into a little problem i am hoping someone could clarify for me

the new from strut cartrages that were included do not include the lower spring seat or strut bar mount.. they appear to be welded onto the struts on the car

someone please shed some light on this! i looked up and down the fsm but cannot find the answer

thanks!

Jason

I don't have the answer but am curious to hear it as I just got the deluxe kit this past week and haven't had time to try to install. I'm assuming I'll have this same issue.

I'm knee-deep in timing belt right now but plan to do the rear this week and the front after we get an answer to your question.

There is only upper spring seat (bearing + insulator) on J30. As to lower spring seat, you do not really need it unless it is seriously damages due to rust or impact. In that case, you will have to replace the whole strut assembly.

However, there are thin (brownish) rubber shields that goon the ends of the coil spring. They are pretty hard to get and I had to resue the old ones.

The bottom spring seat is welded to the strut assembly. What you actually replace is the insert of the strut.

That makes sense. I'm not sure if the spring compressor I have will be able to handle the front strut springs. It should handle the rear springs just fine. I'll be doing the front last for sure but this info will be useful as I could see myself wondering as drape did. Unless the manual spells it out...which from doing this timing belt, it usually doesn't. I'm surprised how much it leaves out. My old cadillac manual is much more detailed.

Advanced auto will loan you a spring compressor Free you just leave a deposit I think auto zone does the same.
