i have had my j30t since 2004 and this is a first for me. when i start up my car or even when im stopping at a light, my j30t will start to idle really low (about 500rpms) and wants to stall! this started about a month ago (3 times so far) and i noticed 2 things.

1) it bogs down when it happens (like not enough gas)2) it smells rich all the time.

any sugestions?

The MAF is easy to clean.Do a search here for the procedure.Just be sure and use a zero residue contact cleaner.Basically the MAF is just past the air filter.Take the clamp off and look past the screen and you will see a thin wire with the sensor in the middle. spray it liberally with the cleaner and let it dry completly before reassembly. It may also be the Idle control assy that need cleaned. These arent simple engines to keep tuned properly.

Could also be your idle air control valve. It's located on the driver's rear side of the intake manifold. It can be removed and cleaned.

found the problem!!!!!!!! now i feel stupid! in looking at the mass air flow sensor while the car was running, i noticed that when i touched the wireing for the maf, it ran better. so i turned it off and looked at the plug and saw that a couple of the prongs weren't making a connection. so i spliced in a new plug for the MAF and it running great! but i will keep the other ideas in mind for future.

this is my j30t
