I understand the engines are the same. I 've read here that the programming is probably different due to extra wt in the j and to give a different ride as a tourer. a friend who is heavy into the z32 can burn a copy of an aftermarket chip for the na vg30. was wondering if there would be any problems in installing it in my j. would appreciate any first hand insight from those who have tried. thanks.

also, has anybody powder coated the t model 15" BBS rims? thinking about doing mine.

I thought about it, but didn't feel like it would look that much better. I ended up painting my center caps black to match my car and they turned out pretty good. What color were you looking to powder coat them? I would be interested in seeing them if you do it.

your J30 has a 16 bit ECU.

which means him burning anything will not help you, because you can only socket and " burn" chips for 8 Bit ECUs.

You can, however, simply use a 16 or 8 bit 300ZX unit.

I can also assure you that the maps are identical, however.

differences do exist for the automatic versions in the transmission controller.

So, in conclusion, the only reason to switch to a 300ZX ECU is if you want to be able to socket it and get an upgraded EPROM i.e. JWT etc.

Keep in mind if you decide to swap that you will need an ECU from an automatic 300zx, and take note if the car is federal or california. there are differences.

In fact, the twin turbo maps are identical to the NA maps, although the ECU will show an error code due to the lack of boost solenoids etc.

I have a JWT ECU upgrade and had the entire thing tuned to fit the J30 at a Z specialty shop. I haven't had any problems with it.

cweber, i was thinking of a bronze color, or maybe the champaign sp? color on the new rims. my j is the maroonish brown.

remember to get one that is pre-94, i failed to mention that.

94 was the year Z32's switched over to 16 bit, but since 80% of Z's are 90-93, it usually isn't an issue.
