Hello Everyone,

I have a 1997 J30 with 50,000 miles. I would like to have the differential fluid changed, but I am unsure of the best brand and the amount to buy. Does 2 quarts sound about right? How does Mobil stack up against Valvoline? Thanks for any suggestions.

Buy 2 bottles of Mobil 1 and you'll use about 1.75 bottles.

Any name brand will do just change it every 30,000 miles or 2 years and the diffs will last 200,000 miles.Whether the sealed viscous unit will maintain its absolute engagement point beyond 120,000 miles [warped internal discs] is debatable but your fluid choice will not affect this, only heat does.

Whether a pure synthetic Mobil or Redline lowers the running temperature is debatable.............under full load the diff has a frictional loss of 1.5%
