just 2 clarify guys since iam a idiot. when people say you need an abs driveshaft from a s13, to mount a j-30 pumpkin on an s13(using the 13 cover).

-are they talking about the driveshaft going front to back from the transmission to the diff??

-or are they talking about the axel going left to right(to the wheels)??

because if iam correct the s13's did not come with abs..

CORRECTION!!! some s13's did come with abs. and yes we're talking about that long black shaft thing from the back of the transmission to the pumpkin. the shafts on the left and right are called axles.

my understanding is that the 95+ j30 diff is a direct swap into the s13 as long as you swap your cover to the j30 and the drive shaft differences is negligible!! somebody confirm, as i am a s14'er

to be exact. you are correct about the 95"+s but the pre 94's are also able to be swapped you only need the axles from the j30 they came off of or the "5 star" axles which have 5 bolts that connect to the dif. the 95"+ have 3 star have 2 bolts for every tip which there are 3 tips. any j30 diff can be swapped to a s13/s14. but depending on the year you may need the axles. also driveshaft is somewhat important. abs diff's dont need but it is recommended that you have the abs s13/s14 shaft(depending what the diff is going into). non abs diffs need the non abs shaft that corresponds to the chassis it is being swapped into. also autoshaft will not fit into 5 speed transmission's. basically it all has to match eachother. remember all this and you'll be good to go.

To mount a j30 vlsd to an s13 you also need to get solid bushings to go where the front bolts would bolt up

the s14/j30/300zx diffs came with rubber bushings, where the s13 didnt have bushings and they were just mounted metal to metal

Yes most important part is big damn washers...First time i downshifted the j30 found a new home on my sway bar...ripped the studs out of the cover and leaked fluid out everywhere...

well i ordered these.

and my biggest thing is the abs driveshaft. all the j-30s i find at the junkyard are abs. and my car used to be a automatic. and it's an s13. but no abs.

so worse case secenerao iam going to have a custom driveshaft made. which in that case i might as well have a one piece made. seems like a lot of trouble for just a vlsd. i already have the 5 bolt axels,as this is my 2nd attempt at this. i threw away the first case and took out the lsd unit. now iam going to just swap the whole pumpkin and hope it works..

LOL all you need are the 2 long OEM bolts from the J30, 4 thick a** black oxide fender washers, a drill press to drill the hole out of the washer to match the bolt width and the stock 240 diff cover. You can get a gasket from FelPro (they are the same for all R200 Nissan diffs) for like $4 if you want, too.

Put the washers on either side of the bushings and slide the OEM J30 bolts through, they have the same diameter and thread pitch as the 240 holes. Change the fluid before putting the cover back on, because the level needed is no longer consistent with the rear drain hole anymore (due to the cover being changed).
