I just got a CD changer (USA SPEC) off Ebay for my J30. I'll be installing it this weekend.

I am curious to hear from some of you that may have installed one of these units. There doesn't appear to be any room to "hang" it below the parcel shelf (horizontal). Where did you put the changer?

I don't really want to put it on the trunk floor because the spare tire is under there. Soooo, the choices are to either hang it vertically on the passenger-side of the trunk or mount it vertically below the trunk dome light. It just seems like either of these locations are quite flimsy to support the weight of the changer.

I'm also curious to know how you ran that FAT wire harness from the trunk to the head unit. I'm assuming the rear seat has to come off which isn't a big deal but I'm not sure if the harness fits under the doorway carpet trim pieces (kick panels with the chrome). It seems like that wiring harness is really thick.

I'll be taking pics when I do the install to post on my web site. I just wanted to poll any J30 owners who may have installed one of these USA SPEC changers.

I would investigate the OEM mounting as for the Q45 it uses a lot of rubber isolation for the player unit.

Im not sure how thick the wire is so i dont know if it will run down the side under the carpet trim pieces. But in order to get the wire from the trunk to the inside of the car you will need to cut a small hole in one of the grommets in the firewall to feed the wire through.

Well, the USA-SPEC CD Changer instructions specifically state that this changer will NOT work with the OEM brackets. You must use the included brackets.

In any case, my car didn't have a OEM changer to begin with. I'm just curious to know where the J30 OEM unit is installed in the trunk.

Yeah I figured I had to poke one of those grommets behind the back seat. I had to do that with my XM satellite radio antenna wire.

The harness is pretty fat. I'd say it's slightly fatter than a Sharpie permanent marker. It's rounded, not a flat ribbon harness.

The more I think about it, I may have to remove the back seat and front passenger seat to run this harness down the side (under the side of the carpet pan). I think the wiring is too fat to sit under the carpet trim pieces and I don't want to force it and risk cutting one of the wires.

Sorry, Carlos. Don't have a changer. I do have the button to access it but, when I hit it, nothing happens! :D

You shouldnt have to remove the front seat...just peel back the carpet a bit and you will have plenty of room i think.

J30t, thanks for the excellent tip. I made all the connections tonight. Ran the wire along the passenger doors and like you said, I was able to fish the wire without removing the front seat.

Right now, everything is put back together and the CD changer is working. Although it's not yet mounted in the trunk. The changer is sitting in its box in my trunk. I'll finish mounting it tomorrow.

If anyone else is interested, you can get these CHEAP on Ebay. I picked this one up NEW for $139.00. That was the Buy it now price. If you bid, you may get it for less than that.

Search ebay for Infiniti cd changer. You should come up with some hits. The model is USA Spec SCD-N66. Crutchfield sells these for $299.

Although the Ebay seller (mrclaxxic) claims it only works on Infiniti model years 96-98, that's a typo. It's Infiniti model years 95-98. Crutchfield has it correct in their description. In any case, it's working in my 95 J30.

Carlos - great info.

Are you going to add it to fuzzycats?

If it's not too much trouble, can you copy the "important parts" into the Bose Audio Thread?
