OK J30 gurus, here's the challenge. I have a '95 J30.
I'm getting an XM Radio receiver for christmas. The XM receiver has a low-level output coming out of it. I don't want to change the J30 BOSE headunit.
The XM receiver is portable (the Delphi Skyfi unit from Circuit City). I'm getting the car kit and home kit. The receiver sits in a cradle in the car or a separate cradle in the house. The unit does not have an FM modulator built-in (like the Sony unit) but I prefer the display on the Delphi better.
My Bose head unit does not have a CD changer connected to it although it has the controls built-in. I know there's a CD changer connector by the rear speakers. I'm wondering if I can connect the CD changer input to the XM receiver's low-level out. I realize I'll have to manufacture an adapter to connect the XM cradle to the CD changer connector. I'm thinking this is doable but I don't know the specs (pin-out) of the CD changer connector.
I want to be able to push the CD changer selector button on the head unit and hear the XM signal instead. I want to be able to control the music volume via the headunit but of course, I'd have to do all the XM-related selections through the XM receiver itself.
In other words, I want to "borrow" the CD changer input into the head unit but rather than a CD changer at the other end, I'd have the XM receiver sending it's low-level signal to the head unit.
The XM unit's car kit comes with one of those cassette adapters so worse case, I'll use it but I'd like to do a clean (stock-like) install and still be able to move the XM unit from the car to the house when I want.
What do you guys think?
